Uscreen and Vimeo OTT alternatives for AI filmmakers

Subscription video platforms are built for an audience that already pays monthly. A new series usually needs a different shape.

By The Generated Worlds editors · Published · Updated

Uscreen costs $49–$449 a month plus 5–10% of sales and builds branded TV and phone apps; Vimeo OTT's Starter plan charges $1 per subscriber and 10% of one-time purchases. Both suit an established audience paying a monthly subscription. For a series that sells episode by episode, Generated Worlds is the alternative: free first episodes, per-episode unlocks on your own domain, 80% of net revenue to the creator, and a site from $39 a month.

How publishing on GW works

GW publishing facts reviewed 2026-10-10. Platform comparisons below keep their own source-check dates.

Free publishing on GW
The free Creator plan supports 1 new series a month, up to 100 episodes each. A paid studio site is optional.
Your independent studio site
Launch your own branded streaming site on Starter for $39 a month. Starter supports 3 new series a month. Publishing on GW and launching this site are separate steps.
Review
Episodes publish on GW as soon as they upload. GW reserves the right to take down any content, or suspend an account, that doesn't pass its review or the Community Guidelines. All published work remains subject to content and rights rules.
Paid episodes
Creators choose which episodes are free or paid. GW sets paid episodes at 10 tokens. The standard creator allocation is 80% of net episode revenue after processing; payouts start at $25. This is separate from brand-deal fees.
Discovery and returning viewers
Viewers can discover your work on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and GW. Send interested viewers to a recognizable series or studio destination where they can return for the story.
Publishing and studio plans

Generated Worlds publishes this and is one of the options compared. Uscreen and Vimeo OTT are described from their own pricing pages, and where they are the better fit this page says so.

A subscription platform asks a viewer to decide once, up front, that your whole library is worth a monthly fee. That works when they already know you. A viewer who met your series ten seconds ago in a Reel is deciding something smaller — whether they want episode two — and a monthly plan is a large question to put in front of a small one.

How to choose in one question: how does your audience want to pay?

  • Per episode, the moment they want the next one — Generated Worlds.
  • A monthly subscription, and they want a TV app — Uscreen.
  • A monthly subscription, simplest possible setup — Vimeo OTT.

Where each one wins

  • Uscreen, if you already have paying subscribers and want your own Roku, Apple TV and phone apps with your name on them.
  • Vimeo OTT, if you want a subscription channel running quickly and pay nothing until people subscribe.
  • Generated Worlds, if you make serialized drama and want viewers to pay for the next episode on your own site, with each series also listed on a platform built for it.

One date worth knowing if you sell on Vimeo today: Vimeo On Demand stopped accepting new uploads on 22 August 2026 and goes offline on 20 November 2026. That is Vimeo's rental-and-purchase product, separate from Vimeo OTT.

Common questions

Does Generated Worlds make TV apps like Uscreen?

No. Episodes play in the browser on phones and computers. If branded TV apps are essential to your business, Uscreen is the better fit.

Can I charge a subscription on Generated Worlds?

Channels do not sell their own subscriptions. Viewers unlock episodes one at a time, or take the platform-wide Unlimited Week; creators receive 80% of its net, shared by minutes watched on their paid episodes.

Can I move from Uscreen or Vimeo OTT to Generated Worlds?

Yes. Upload the episodes to a studio, choose which ones are free, pick a site template and point your domain at the new site. Your subscribers are not moved for you; tell them where the series now lives.
